More than 100 instruments donated to D.C. Virgo
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Students at D.C. Virgo have some new band instruments thanks to a generous donation.
More than 100 instruments were donated to help budding musicians play in the school band.
National Pawn donated the instruments as well as a check for $2,000 to the school to off-set any future repair and maintenance costs for the instruments.
National Pawn owner Bob Moulton said he’s a proud “band geek” who knows what it’s like to want to learn to play, but not have an instrument.
“It all went back when I was in the 7th grade and my parents really couldn’t, it would’ve been hard for them to afford an instrument, and I know there’s a lot of kids that were in the same situation — loved to be in the band, just couldn’t afford the instrument, and so that’s why we donated them,” Moulton said.
“We are so excited to have this donation,” D.C. Virgo Band Director Dr. Crystal Britton said. “It means that children will have an opportunity to take their own instrument home so they can practice while they’re there. If we have any incidents or accidents during the classroom day we don’t have to stop to make a major repair, we have a substitute.”
Moulton added that if any community members have instruments they are not using, they should donate them to the schools.
