The more eco-friendly TV has arrived

Televisions are going green. Samsung has come out with a new eco-friendly flat screen that could take a bite out of your electricity bill.

The new television uses forty percent less power than a conventional TV. It uses a panel of LED light bulbs, which are more energy-efficient and give off less heat than standard LCDs and plasma TVs.

Best Buy supervisor Jesse Tew said that means a brighter picture and better color. Unlike most other TVs, this flat screen doesn’t contain lead or mercury-another bonus for the environment. “It’s better for the environment overall, in power and in the overall manufacturing of the TV,” Tew said.

Another attraction to the LED television is how thin it is, just an inch and a half.

Donnie Johnson is thinking about putting one in his living room. “I say you’ll have to paint it on the wall if it gets any thinner.”

Another perk is that if you keep a lot of pictures on a flash drive, you can plug this right into the LED TV and watch your pictures on a giant slideshow.

But a TV this nice comes with a big price tag; the 46 inch model will cost you nearly three grand…

Jesse Tew said Sony and LG have also come out with an LED television but they haven’t hit the market yet.

As far as the price goes, he says it’s likely to drop after the TV has been on the market for some time, like most new technology.
