More information in Brunswick County shooting

We have more information about the circumstances surrounding a deputy-involved shooting in Brunswick County.

Alton Lawrence Walters died Sunday after being shot by Sheriff’s Deputy Bradley Hardee. Hardee was responding to a domestic disturbance on Captain’s Wheel Avenue in Supply.

According to the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Department, Walters resisted arrest. Hardee tried to use his taser, but said Walters pulled off the leads and continued toward the deputy.

Authorities said Walters then reached for the deputy’s gun, so Hardee fired.

Deputy Hardee has been placed on paid administrative duty while the SBI investigates.
