More power given to NC governors to handle droughts

Lawmakers are answering Governor Easley‘s call to give him more executive power to respond to a drought.

The house gave final approval today to a plan that gives North Carolina governors additional authority to ensure local governments and water systems reduce water usage during shortages.

Easley called on the General Assembly to pass the measure earlier this year as a widespread drought affected the entire state.

Much of North Carolina is still in drought conditions.
