More support for a local veterans center

There was more momentum Thursday night behind the move to get a veterans center in Wilmington.

The organizing group held its second meeting and has enlisted more support. They said there is a real need for a place where veterans can get mental health counseling and support locally.

A UNCW professor sees that as a potential win-win for veterans and his students. “We would see this as a wonderful site where students could go, learn if there’s some counseling going on, sit in, observe,” said John Nasuti, UNCW social work professor.

Nasuti said the ideal scenario would be the establishment of a degree program at UNCW emphasizing veteran’s issues.
