Motorcyclists take to Wilmington streets to support NY firefighters

Motorcyclists took to the streets of Wilmington Saturday to remember the heroes of September 11th. The 343 Memorial Ride gathered hundreds of bikers together in support of the firefighters who lost their lives in the World Trade Center eight years ago.

Wilmington police and firefighters escorted the riders during an hour long ride around the city. Wilmington firefighter Jack Jarvis organized the ride to remember and honor the New York firefighters.

“We don’t call it the 9/11 ride, because we don’t want to remember the day, we want to remember the people. We had 343 firefighters that went into the building and lost their lives, but they saved almost 40,000 people. And it’s a horrible loss, but they did their job, and we want to remember each and every one of them,” Jarvis said.

Each rider who participated rode with a dog tag inscribed with the name of a fallen firefighter.

Britt Motorsports sponsored the event. All proceeds from the ride benefit the North Carolina Burn Center in Chapel Hill.
