Person dies in overnight Hampstead house fire

HAMPSTEAD, NC (WWAY) — The Pender County Sheriff’s Office says one person died in a house fire in Hampstead overnight.

Pender County Fire Marshal Tommy Batson said it happened at a home on Treetop Court around 1:50 a.m. Tuesday.

Batson said the neighbors heard some kind of explosion.

After putting out the fire, crews found a body inside the home. No word on the person’s identity at this time.

Authorities are working to determine the cause of the fire.

The sheriff’s office, NCSBI and BATFE are investigating the blaze.
