Multiple fatalities reported in Caswell County shooting; SBI assisting investigation

CASWELL COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Authorities are investigating a shooting that left multiple people dead and another person injured Wednesday morning in Caswell County.

The Caswell County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded shortly before 8 a.m. to a call for service at 352 Brooks Road in Prospect Hill.

When deputies arrived, they found multiple people who had been shot.

According to our ABC affiliate WTVD, three people were killed and died at the scene. A fourth victim was taken to Duke University Hospital with a gunshot wound.

Caswell County Sheriff Tony Durden requested assistance from the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, whose crime scene investigators spent a large part of the day processing evidence and conducting interviews.

The Sheriff’s Office said investigators were working to notify the victims’ next of kin before releasing additional information.

During a press conference Wednesday afternoon, officials said all four victims are adults and members of the same family. They also confirmed the suspected shooter is dead.

Officials said the shooting was contained to the Brooks Road address and that there was no ongoing threat to the public.

The Caswell County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation with assistance from the SBI, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the Prospect Hill Fire Department, Caswell County EMS and the Person County Sheriff’s Office.

The investigation remains active. Officials said additional information will be released through future press releases and the social media accounts of the Caswell County Sheriff’s Office and the SBI as it becomes available.
