OCEAN ISLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — The Museum of Coastal Carolina will celebrate sharks with a week of educational activities and special programs during its annual Shark Soiree, scheduled for Aug. 3-7.

The event is designed to encourage visitors to learn more about sharks and their role in the ocean while exploring common misconceptions about the species.

Throughout the week, museum guests can participate in a variety of shark-themed activities included with regular museum admission. Activities include making a shark fin hat, playing a shark tooth matching game, dissecting a paper shark to learn about shark anatomy and taking part in a shark-themed scavenger hunt.

The museum will also host several special presentations and workshops during the event:

  • Aug. 3, 11:30 a.m. – North Carolina Shark Conservancy presentation
  • Aug. 4, 5:30 p.m. – Ripley’s Aquarium Sandbar Lecture Series presentation
