Musician Uncle Kracker jailed on sex offense charge
RALEIGH (AP) — A district court judge reduced the bond this afternoon for rock-country musician Uncle Kracker to $75,000 after he was arrested in Raleigh on a charge of second degree sex offense.
Police spokesman Jim Sughrue says the musician, whose real name is Matthew Shafer, was arrested at a hotel in suburban Cary in connection to an incident at a nightclub.
Sughrue says the accuser and Shafer were not acquaintances.
Sughrue says a 26-year-old woman told a Raleigh police officer working off-duty at the Ess Lounge that a man committed a sexual act against her in the club.
Cary police detained Shafer until Raleigh police arrived and took him to the Wake County Jail.
The 33-year-old Shafer was scheduled to perform last night at the nightclub. He had been originally held on a bond of $5 million.
