‘Mustaches for Kids’ donates money to 10 local organizations
WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — The group “Mustaches for Kids” presented checks to several local organizations for Stachegiving Day.
The event took place on Tuesday night at Poe’s Tavern in Wrightsville Beach.
The group raised more than $30,000 by growing mustaches and collecting pledges back in November.
Growers, supporters, friends and family came out to the event to give that money to 10 local organizations that help children.
The group has been growing mustaches and raising money for 13 years, but this is the first time they’ve had a Stachegiving Day event.
“Mustaches for Kids” presented checks to the Carousel Center, the Brigade Boys & Girls Club, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Communities in Schools, DREAMS of Wilmington, the Miracle League of Wilmington, the Community Brigade Boys & Girls Club, Make-a-Wish Foundation, Hope from Helen, and Ocean Cure.
“We try to make a big impact on our local community and we have a lot of guys that do a lot of hard work every single year,” Stache Master Chris Spivey said.
Spivey said between 85 to 100 men participate in growing a mustache every November for “Mustaches for Kids,” and said the group is looking for as many folks as possible to join in the fundraising efforts.
