Myrtle Grove Optimist Little League Team Prepares for Southeast Championship

Please pardon the excitement of the Myrtle Grove Optimist baseball team. They captured the state Little League championship last weekend. That’s enough to even get everyone on this club pumped up, even their head coach, John McGee. “We’re going to see some really good baseball, as you can see tonight we’re working on every situation, putting runners in scoring position and trying to get the ball in play.”

This ball club will represent the state of NC in the Southeast Regional this coming weekend in Florida. Their first game will be against the Little League champion from Alabama. Then they play South Carolina and Virginia. If they come out on top of that particular bracket, that will put them in the championship game of the SE regional, a game that will be televised by ESPN. If they win that game it’s off to Williamsport, Pennsylvania for the Little League World Series. Live coverage of the Little League World Series will be provided by ESPN and ABC Sports. Sounds big time, but really, it’s just little league. Perhaps these 11 and 12 year olds are too young to get nervous about the attention they might get if they keep on winning….but that’s the key…. Keep on winning….and the eyes of the nation may just end up being on this team that calls Wilmington home…
