N.C. soldier killed in Iraq
FORT BRAGG, N.C. (AP) — Military officials say a North Carolina man based at Fort Bragg has died from injuries suffered in a non-combat related incident.
Capt. Michael Shean Fielder of Holly Springs died Sunday in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 248th Medical Company (Veterinary Services), 44th Medical Command, 18th Airborne Corps.
The military is investigating his death.
Fielder was a field veterinary service officer who joined the military in June 2000 and was assigned to the unit in September 2006, when his deployment to Iraq began. This was his first deployment.
A memorial service for Fielder is scheduled for Saturday in Iraq. Plans for a memorial service for here have not been determined.
