Nakina man charged with murder by golf club

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A Columbus County man is in jail charged with killing his mother’s boyfriend with a golf club.

Deputies arrested Larry O. Simmons this morning after a grand jury indicted him for second-degree murder yesterday.

Investigators say Phillip Ikner died last month after Simmons hit him in the back of the neck with a golf club.

It happened during an argument at their home in Nakina Jan. 28.
