Nature Conservancy looking for volunteers to improve Green Swamp
DURHAM, NC (NEWS RELEASE) – The Nature Conservancy is looking for volunteers to help out at the Green Swamp Preserve with trail maintenance and habitat restoration.
Workdays are scheduled for October 16 (trail maintenance) and November 13 (red-cockaded woodpecker habitat thinning). Wear work clothes and close-toed shoes. Bring gloves; if you don’t have them, we will provide them. We will also provide tools, water and a snack.
Both workdays begin at 9 a.m. at the Green Swamp parking area, which is located 5.5 miles north of Supply on NC 211.
The Conservancy owns and manages the 17,424-acre Green Swamp Preserve in Brunswick County. The swamp contains fine examples of longleaf pine savannas and pocosin. It is also home to 14 carnivorous plant species and a number of rare animals including the American alligator and fox squirrel.
