Navassa’s town council meets for first time since mayor was arrested

NAVASSA, NC (WWAY) — Navassa’s town council met tonight little more than two weeks after their mayor was arrested.

The arrest came after another council member said Mayor Eulis Willis threatened her. Willis and the council member whose allegations got him arrested, Minnie Brown, were both at tonight’s meeting. Neither one directly acknowledged the other’s presence.

Brown says Willis threatened her after an argument over issues relating to the town council.

We asked Mayor Willis again tonight if he would like to share his side of the story about just what happened. Willis said he did not and then said he was too old for this.

Outside of regular business there were no fireworks at tonight’s meeting either. Brown maintains she will not drop the charges. Willis’s next court date is Jan. 30.
