NC hospitals flooded with weather-related injuries
RALEIGH, NC (AP) — Emergency rooms in some North Carolina cities have been flooded with weather-related injuries after a winter storm dumped a heavy blanket of snow across the state over the holiday weekend.
WRAL-TV reports that Raleigh-area hospitals reported treating dozens of patients Monday for injuries caused by slips and falls on icy steps, sidewalks and parking lots. Greg Talent of Rex Healthcare in Raleigh says he’s seen mostly wrist and ankle injuries.
WGHP-TV reports that Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro treated 55 people for falls since Saturday afternoon, and Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem treated more than 30 people for falls.
Officials say ice could continue to be a problem Tuesday, as snowy spots that melted Monday may have refrozen overnight.
