NC man accused of plotting to kill deputy

HENDERSON, N.C. (AP) – A Vance County man who served 20 years in prison for second-degree murder and burglary is back in jail after authorities say he conspired to kill a Warren County sheriff’s deputy.

The Daily Dispatch of Henderson reports (http://bit.ly/16AegmO) 39-year-old Jeremiah Royster is charged in Warren County with conspiracy to commit murder and willfully destroying evidence. He’s facing a charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in Vance County.

Royster was jailed without bond for the Warren County charges, while bond in Vance County was set at $30,000. Authorities say he’s been transferred to Raleigh as a precaution.

Warren County Sheriff Johnny Williams said a tip led law enforcement agencies to a series of countermeasures to identify a person of interest, leading to Royster’s arrest last Saturday.
