NC man accused in woman’s kidnapping, death
GASTONIA, N.C. (AP) – Authorities in Catawba County have charged a Granite Falls man after a woman he had a relationship with was kidnapped from her home, stabbed and hit by a truck as she tried to escape her attacker.
The Gaston Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/17NZbev ) 49-year-old Aaron Obedee Compton Jr. is charged with murder, burglary and kidnapping. Compton is jailed without bond and it’s not known if he has an attorney.
The Catawba County Sheriff’s Office says Compton broke into the apartment of 40-year-old Tabatha Spake Heavner of Maiden early Wednesday. It’s believed Heavner was stabbed before she was abducted.
Police think Heavner’s assailant then drove down U.S. 321 toward Gastonia. They say Heavner jumped from the car and was stabbed, and while trying to escape, she was hit and killed by a truck.
