NC man killed when SUV runs off road into pond

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (AP) – Police in Fayetteville say a man has died after the SUV he was driving ran off a road and landed in a small pond.

Lt. Todd Joyce of the Fayetteville Police Department said 36-year-old Timothy Edward Duncan died after the crash Thursday morning.

Joyce said the SUV crossed the center line, ran off a road and through a fence at a softball field. It went into the pond, flipped over and landed upside down.

According to Joyce, a Fayetteville Fire Department employee who was on his way to work called police after seeing the mangled fence around 7 a.m.

While the exact time of the accident isn’t known, Joyce said it’s believed the accident occurred after midnight, adding that frost had formed on tire marks.
