NC murder suspect rejects deal from assistant DA

GASTONIA, N.C. (AP) – A Kings Mountain man accused of first-degree murder has rejected a plea deal that would have led to at least 13 years in prison.

The Gaston Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/14EevIp) 23-year-old Tyrone Marcus Cannedy and pleaded not guilty during his arraignment in the death of Larry Jabar Hall in June 2012. Cannedy’s attorney also rejected the plea deal, saying Hall had many enemies who could have chosen to take his life.

The offer extended by Gaston County Assistant District Attorney Stephanie Hamlin on Tuesday would have allowed Cannedy to plead guilty to second-degree murder and serve at least 13 years in prison.

Cannedy has been in the Gaston County Jail on a secured bond of more than $500,000 since his arrest last July. His trial is set for March 2014.
