NC school named among 30 safest college towns in America

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY)- SafeWise is happy to announce the SafeWise 30 Safest College Towns in America list and Elon University made the cut!

SafeWise compiles a list of the top 30 Safest College Towns in America based on the most recent FBI crime data from 2014 to rank the cities, which all have a minimum population of 10,000 people.

Elon University is in Elon, North Carolina and was highlited for having a comprehensive crime awareness education, and wanting to make sure students make it home safely.

The site says the university provides personal escorts on campus from 7 p.m. until 7 a.m., and the Safe Rides program provides transportation to students who have been drinking.

Safe Rides also works to educate students about the dangers of drinking and driving.
