NC woman convicted of hitting 2 nurses; killing 1

CHARLOTTE, NC (AP) — A woman has been convicted of hitting two nurses in Mecklenburg County with her car, killing one of the victims.

Leah Walton was convicted of involuntary manslaughter Monday. A Mecklenburg County jury will consider a sentence Tuesday. Walton faces more than four years in prison.

Susan Karabulut was killed and Lisa Mcle was hurt when they were struck on a sidewalk on Aug. 22, 2010.

Prosecutor Gabrielle Macon says Walton was under the influence of a prescription drug for which she did not have a prescription.

Defense attorneys contend Walton was looking for a cigarette when she swerved and hit the women.
