NC’s High Point University continues to grow

HIGH POINT, N.C. — High Point University’s president says the private school in North Carolina is weathering the economic storm so well that it continues to hire new staff and expects more students on campus this fall.

The News & Record of Greensboro reported that High Point President Nido Qubein told the board of trustees Wednesday that the school’s growth numbers are “phenomenal.” The school has hired 35 faculty and staff members this year and plans to hire 60 more before August.

High Point University had 1,900 students on campus this year and predicts 2,300 next session.

Qubein says the school’s endowment has lost 30 percent of its value, or $16 million. But he says only about 1 percent of that endowment is used for operational costs.
