NC authorities arrest 73 in cockfighting raid

RAMSEUR — North Carolina authorities say 73 people have been arrested after Randolph County sheriff’s deputies raided a cockfighting operation.

The News & Record of Greensboro reported the raid on three chicken houses occurred about 1 p.m. Saturday in the Coleridge community southeast of High Point.

Authorities said 33-year-old Barry Ritter has been charged with cockfighting and cruelty to animals. The other people arrested face felony charges related to cockfighting. Officers confiscated 75 vehicles.

Sheriff’s Capt. Johnny Hussey says immigration officials are involved in the investigation.

Officials found several dead roosters and took 133 live roosters.
