NC Board of Transportation member Wilson resigns

RALEIGH, N.C. — A former fundraiser for then-Gov. Mike Easley who testified at a state elections board hearing about donations to the Democratic Party has resigned from the state Board of Transportation.

Lanny Wilson said in his resignation letter Thursday to Gov. Beverly Perdue he’s stepping down after nine years to avoid “any further unnecessary distractions” as she reforms the board and Department of Transportation.

Wilson testified in October as the elections board examined Easley’s campaign committee. Wilson also loaned money to a company to finance the sale of a Carteret County development called Cannonsgate. The development is part of a broad probe by federal prosecutors looking into Easley’s activities.

Wilson also raised money for Perdue’s 2008 campaign.
