NC brothers thwart man’s attack on young jogger
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Authorities are crediting two brothers with saving a 19-year-old jogger from being abducted as she ran on the streets near the University of North Carolina.
Multiple media outlets reported Joey and Freddie Shelton intervened when they saw a man trying to drag the woman toward a car in a parking lot in Chapel Hill by moving their car to slow the man’s exit. Joey Shelton was hurt when the man pinned him between the cars as he escaped.
Police have charged 26-year-old Theodore James Walker of Chapel Hill with second-degree kidnapping and other crimes. Walker was arrested about 90 minutes after the attack Wednesday.
He was being held Friday in the Orange County Jail under a $5 million bond. WRAL-TV reported Walker’s attorney says Walker suffers from mental illness and may not have been on his medication.
