NC community college board names Ralls as new president

RALEIGH (AP) — The State Board of Community Colleges has elected Craven Community College President Scott Ralls as the new system president.

Ralls was selected by an unanimous vote. He will be paid $275,000 annually and will start his new job on April 1.

The selection of the new leader for the 58-campus system has drawn an unusual amount of attention after the system decided to admit illegal immigrants at all of its campuses.

The five leading major party candidates for governor are all opposed to the policy, although Gov. Mike Easley, who is barred from seeking a third successive term, supports the system’s
position.
