NC family wants pet dog returned from shelter

RALEIGH — A Wake County family says its dog shouldn’t be put to death by the county although the animal’s behavior qualifies it as dangerous.

The News & Observer of Raleigh reported Friday that the 40-pound boxer named Honey is in the county animal shelter while its fate is decided. Two people reported bites from the dog and a third person suffered a broken wrist jumping out of its way.

Owner Connie Inggs said the family is appealing the death sentence. She said she didn’t know the dog had been declared dangerous and never met one person who complained.

County animal control director Michael Williams said the case is unusual, and nothing will happen to Honey until an appeal is heard.
