NC firefighter finds wife dead on emergency call
WILMINGTON — A volunteer firefighter found his wife dead when he responded to a hit-and-run call on a rural North Carolina road.
The Associated Press reported Wednesday that Jamie Kornegay of Penderlea Fire Department in Pender County was responding Monday to the call and found his wife lying in the road
near their home.
Kornegay says 30-year-old Amy Suzanne Kornegay was on a regular walk with her cousin when she was struck by a pickup truck. The North Carolina Highway Patrol was investigating the incident and the 71-year-old driver hadn’t been arrested.
Her husband said his wife was a substitute elementary school teacher and a part-time accounting clerk. The Kornegays had two sons.
WWAY will update this story as the information becomes available.
