NC gives tips on building at-home food business

GREENSBORO — North Carolina startup food companies that have found their footing are getting help to take the next step toward growth.

The state Agriculture Department hosts a workshop in Greensboro on Thursday targeting at-home food product producers who have found a market for their products and want to move from part-timer to professional.

The agency’s marketing division is offering the free advice after noticing there’s lots of resources for early stage operations, but little help available for entrepreneurs who have
reached the end of the startup phase and seek potential growth.

The program is designed to cover the basics of a business plan, with a focus on growth stage. Entrepreneurs will hear from producers of ice cream, seasonings, and pound cake.
