NC House committee meets for first time related to Wright
RALEIGH (AP) — A state House panel investigating Representative Thomas Wright will hear from two state attorneys next month about the criminal indictments against him.
The House Select Committee investigating alleged misconduct by the Wilmington Democrat met Tuesday for the first time.
State attorneys will report January 3 to the six-member committee. The panel will determine if there’s enough evidence to show Wright may have participated in unethical or illegal conduct.
The panel ultimately would hold another hearing and could recommend that the full House remove him from the Legislature.
A grand jury last week indicted Wright on six charges for illegally obtaining or misusing more than $350,000.
Another panel of House and Senate members already has determined there is probable cause that Wright violated ethics rules. It will meet again in early February.
