NC man wanted to stop getaway after home invasion

CHARLOTTE — A North Carolina newspaper reports that a 76-year-old man who shot and killed a 15-year-old home invasion suspect told investigators he chased the robbers to stop their getaway car.

The Charlotte Observer on Monday cited a law enforcement source as saying C.L. McClure told investigators he chased four teens who broke into his home last month because he wanted to shoot out the car’s tires.

McClure told investigators he found the group in an apartment complex parking lot and fired a warning shot to make them scatter.

McClure told investigators he shot Marcus Fluker because the teen seemed to turn back and McClure thought he was going to shoot.

Prosecutors could decide this week if the shooting was legally justified.
