NC Maritime Museum meets Thursday about closing

Supporters of the NC Maritime Museum at Southport will plead their case to City Aldermen Thursday.

The museum is in danger of closing because of state budget cuts. About 36 percent of the museum’s $170,000 budget goes toward renting a storefront space on Howe Street.

Supporters have said they fear that if the museum closes they will never be able to muster the money and support to open it again in the future.

The meeting is Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. at Southport City Hall.
