NC parks offer programs for kids out week
RALEIGH — North Carolina’s state parks are offering activities ranging from an owl prowl to surf fishing so adults can take part in Take A Child Outside Week, which runs through Sept.
24-30.
The park service said it has more than 70 programs available across the state and that many are scheduled in the afternoon or early evening so parents can easily spend time with children.
The week was begun last year by educators at the N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences as a way to get children away from indoor recreation such as video games.
Activities range from fishing trips on Saturday at Falls Lake State Recreation Area to folk tales at Mount Mitchell State Park.
