NC police may have shot and killed suspected SC serial killer

South Carolina investigators are on the scene of a police-involved shooting in North Carolina that may be linked to a serial killer case in Gaffney.

Police in Gastonia shot and killed a man they suspected was trying to burglarize a home early this morning.

A short time later, they called in police from South Carolina, who are investigating a string of five shooting deaths in the Gaffney area over the past week.

One possible link may be the vehicle the serial killer is thought to be driving, a light-colored Ford Explorer from the early 90’s that was found at the scene in Gastonia.

In the meantime, people in Gaffney are staying on alert.

“The residents are being cautious by staying in groups, keeping their doors locked, not allowing strangers in and by being vigilant. And I would echo what law enforcement is saying, that is urge the citizens to be cautious and be vigilant and use good common sense. Good common sense is one of the keys to this issue,” said Gaffney City Administrator James Taylor.

The sheriff investigating the South Carolina killings says physical evidence links the five shootings together, but he is not elaborating on what that evidence is.

A $20,000 reward is being offered for information about the killings.
