NC police seize fighting roosters, tools

WINSTON-SALEM — A North Carolina city’s police have seized four roosters and items related to cockfighting for the second time in two weeks.

The Winston-Salem Journal reported Thursday that police raided a Winston-Salem house after a report of abandoned animals. Animal control officers found 22 roosters and hens.

Two of the chickens had injuries and officers found tools that could be used to cut the loose flesh on a rooster’s head and chin. The procedure is typically used on roosters involved in
cockfighting to make it harder for them to get hurt.

Officer Drake Parrish said authorities are searching for the people who had lived in the house. No arrests have been made.
