NC town imposes teen curfew
TRENTON, N.C. — A small town in southeastern North Carolina has imposed a curfew for those under age 18.
The Daily News of Jacksonville reported that the Trenton Town Board of Commissioners has voted to keep those under 18 off the streets between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.
Mayor Gladys Meadows said people all over town had requested the action.
Jones County Sheriff John Hall says the ordinance should keeping children out of trouble. Hall says some minors are out on the street almost around the clock, hanging out in front of stores.
Violators will be taken home. If a parent or guardian can’t be found, the youngster will be turned over to the Jones County Department of Social Services.
There are exceptions for work, school or church functions, as well as those just traveling through town.
