NC woman accused of using hatchet to rob, kill man
KENLY, NC (AP) — A North Carolina woman has been arrested and accused of using a hatchet to rob and kill an 80-year-old man in his home earlier this year. The News & Observer of Raleigh reported that 37-year-old Crystal D. Worley of Selma was arrested Thursday and charged with first-degree murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon.
She’s accused of using a hatchet to rob and kill James E. Cooper at his home in Kenly on June 6. An autopsy says Cooper died from a blow to the head.
Johnston County sheriff’s spokeswoman Tammy Amaon says Worley had befriended Cooper and had been to his house to clean and do yard work.
Arrest warrants state that Worley took a black onyx ring and Cooper’s wallet, which had $526.
It was unclear if Worley has a lawyer.
