NC woman recalls firing 1, not 6, shots at husband

ASHEVILLE — A woman accused of killing her husband says she remembers accidentally shooting him one time but doesn’t recall the five other shots that hit the man.

The Asheville Citizen-Times reported that 46-year-old Debra Madeo Clark told a jury that she was trying to use the gun to scare her husband away from the home during a heated argument. She said the next thing she knew, the gun fired.

Assistant District Attorney Chris Hess reminded Clark of previous testimony in the trial that two of the six gunshots struck Stephen Clark in the back. She said she only remembers the initial shot.

Debra Clark is charged with first-degree murder in the March 2007 killing.
