NC-based Marines get motorcycle safety training
MARINE CORPS AIR STATION CHERRY POINT, N.C. — The Marines Corps is offering specialized motorcycle training to Marines as the service tries to curb the rising number of fatal accidents.
The California Superbike safety training course scheduled for Wednesday at Cherry Point prepares Marines for common dangers and promotes defensive riding techniques.
The training course is one of the Marine Corps’ newest tools in addressing motorcycle accidents. Since 2004, Marine Corps motorcycle-related deaths have risen every year.
The Daily News of Jacksonville reports that eight Marines from Camp Lejeune have died this year in motorcycle accidents.
