RALEIGH, NC (WWAY) — The North Carolina Department of Transportation is inviting the public to help shape the state’s next Statewide Multimodal Freight Plan through a series of public meetings scheduled for next week, including one in Wilmington.

The meetings will give residents and stakeholders an opportunity to review the draft plan and provide feedback on strategies to improve the movement of goods across North Carolina. Registration is required for each session.

The meetings are scheduled for:

  • July 14: Waynesville (in-person and virtual)
  • July 15: Greensboro (in-person only)
  • July 16: Wilmington (in-person and virtual)

The updated plan will build on the 2023 Statewide Multimodal Freight Plan and establish goals to improve freight movement by highway, rail, air, ports, waterways and pipelines. NCDOT says the plan is intended to strengthen North Carolina’s economy by making the transportation of goods more efficient.

The draft plan is expected to be released for public comment this fall before final approval by the N.C. Board of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration. The final plan is expected in early 2027.
