NCGOP picks Wilmington for 2011 convention
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Get ready for a Grand Old Party in the Port City.
Yesterday the North Carolina Republican Party announced it has chosen the Wilmington Convention Center to host its state convention next summer. Several hundred people are expected for the event scheduled June 3-5.
GOP’s 7th Congressional District chair Frank Williams said the Republican Convention will give Wilmington and the party a chance to shine.
“I think it’s great for Southeastern North Carolina,” Williams said. “I think it’s definitely going to give a lot of exposure to the Republican Party and the conservative movement throughout the state. We made a lot of historic gains last year, so I think this is a good time to showcase those gains.”
The convention is held in a different city every year. More than 700 people attended this year’s convention in Winston-Salem.
