Neighbors react to dog shooting investigation

ONSLOW COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Neighbors of the Camp Lejeune Marine accused of shooting and killing his pet dog said the dog was friendly.

Anton Prosyanitsky, 20, was arrested Saturday on charges including felony animal cruelty. Deputies said he shot his dog twice on Friday, left it in the yard, and then shot it again twice on Saturday.

Neighbors said the dog’s name was Bear and he was sweet and well-behaved. Katherine French told ABC-affiliate WCTI she knew this because she cared for Bear for about a week when he got out of Prosyanitsky’s yard.

“There was no reason to shoot the dog,” French said. You could’ve taken it to the animal shelter. There were two people in this house wanting to keep it.”

According to WCTI, Prosyanitsky told investigators he shot the dog because it was being aggressive to another dog. The Marine is out on bond tonight.
