Neighbors travel miles to help neighbors
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Virginia farmer makes his third trip to the Cape Fear bringing fresh food and canned goods, after Florence.
He knew the storm would make fresh food scarce so he brought thousands of pounds of produce including peaches, apples, potatoes, peppers and peas.
Taylor first stopped at the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina, then made his way to the World Central Kitchen and also plans to stop at a local shelter on his journey.
Taylor said many people have reached out to him willing to contribute to his journey.
“One lady emailed me and said I was looking at my kids today, and ‘I thought if my kids were in that shelter with nothing but their clothes on, what would give them comfort?’ so she’s out campaigning to get stuffed animals, ” said Taylor.
He brought over 100 stuffed animals to donate to children in shelters. Taylor plans to more trip to help as many people impacted by the storm as possible.
