New career path for Navassa’s Chucky Brown perhaps?

RALEIGH, NC (WWAY) — NC State hosted St. Francis on Sunday in a men’s college basketball game in Raleigh. Former NC State hoops standout Chucky Brown was courtside. In fact the New Orleans Pelicans scout was courtside in order to provide television color commentary on the Wolfpack game. “I am doing some radio and tv now in addition to the scouting,” Chucky Brown told WWAY’s John Rendleman. “Just like anyone else, I am just trying to make some money. Normally Chris Corchiani does it, but he couldn’t do the past two games and I said why not do it? It is something I always wanted to do, and I like to like to listen to the commentary on tv anyway so I tried my hand at it.”

Chucky Brown spent several years living in Navassa(Brunswick County). The North Brunswick High graduate chimed on the NC State basketball team. “Lots of athleticism,” Brown said. “Got a lot of depth. Once the kid from Turkey comes they’ll be really deep on the front line and they’re good on the wings with depth. I think they are a (NCAA) tournament team. When asked Brown about Whiteville’s Shaun Kirk. “Shaun is a very athletic player. He gets out of there with so much energy, ready to go, he needs to just calm down a little bit and let the game come to him. Easiest way to get on the court is to play defense, rebound, get loose balls. NC State can definitely use his skills.”

Chucky Brown not only won an NBA title with the Houston Rockets he’s also a NBA record holder. Brown played for 12 NBA teams over a 13 year period. “It was a fun ride,” Brown said. “I just enjoyed being around the game. It’s fun to be around basketball.” Brown actually shares the record. Tony Massenburg, Jim Jackson and Joe Smith also played for 12 NBA teams.
