New details in human trafficking case in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — More details in the case of human trafficking discovered here in Wilmington this week.

Two men arrested for holding girls against their will and forcing them to work.

One of the men, Jeremy Moots, was arrested in Edmond, OK, on possession of marijuana charges, according to police reports obtained by our affiliate station KOCO. The report indicates Moots was with a minor at the time of his arrest.

Even more interesting is the magazine company, the minors removed from human trafficking yesterday, were supposedly working for.

Midwest Circulations, LLC is a company with an “F” from the Better Business Bureau and the subject of media reports and lawsuits. Including one alleging the company is committing fraud by the Missouri Attorney General’s Office.

These traveling magazine sales companies have a nationwide history of attracting young employees often engaging in transient like behavior. Companies similar to Midwest have in fact been booted from the state by Attorney General Roy Cooper.
