New details in I-40 crash that killed 1, seriously injured another in Sept.
DUPLIN COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The Highway Patrol says there are new details in a fatal crash that happened on I-40 in September.
The Highway Patrol says two people faced life threatening injuries after an accident on I-40 near mile 382 at Rose Hill.
Troopers initially told WWAY Paisley Cookson, 23, of Wilmington, rear-ended Jamie Smith, 27, of Willard. Both Smith and Cookson had to been airlifted to the hospital.
Troopers now say Smith was stopped on I-40 when Cookson hit him. She did not survive her injuries and Smith is still in the hospital.
Trooper said no charges have been filed at this time, because Smith cannot communicate about what happened yet.
