NEW DETAILS: SEGS Academy responds to parents complaints

DELCO, NC (WWAY) — Today the school leader of SEGS Academy, Annmarie Johnston, spoke out in regards to some complaints made by parents about how the school is being operated.

The State Board of Education began the process of revoking the school’s charter on March 5th. The school said they will be appealing that decision.

In the meantime there have been some concerns raised by parents about teachers leaving the school. The parents said missing teachers are forcing students to sit in classes in lower grade levels. We reached out to the school leader to explain.

“For supervision purposes we had to disperse them until we could gather, because we were left with absolutely no lesson plans. So what we did is we asked the older kids if they would mentor some of the younger kids for a short period of time until we could get some instruction going, because we were caught off guard,” said Johnston.

Johnston said only one teacher has left the school since March 5th.

The appeal hearing is scheduled for March 30th in Raleigh.
