New faces to New Hanover County School Board move forward to November ballot
NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Results are in following the primary election in New Hanover County.
There will be new faces on the board after November. Current board members Hugh McManus, Stephanie Kraybill, and Stephanie Walker opted to not run for re-election.
David Perry, Natosha Tew, and Nikki Bascome were the top vote getters on the Republican ticket, with Aubrey Tuell and Kimberly McDuffie Murphy trailing behind.
Bascome says she looks forward to November and is ready to get to work.
“I will still substitute for New Hanover County Schools. I’ll still volunteer in the classroom as much as teachers will have me and I’m still going to be on the Family Advisory Committee for New Hanover County Schools,” said Bascome. “I don’t plan on going anywhere. This is something I’ve done for a very long time, being active in our schools. I will continue to be active in our schools, whether it’s as a school board member or not.”
WWAY did reach out to all Republican candidates, but did not hear back.
Tim Merrick, Judy Justice, and Jerry Jones, Jr. are moving forward on the Democratic side. Cynthia Munoz dropped out of the race earlier this year. If Munoz had won, the Democratic Party would have been tasked with appointing someone to run in her place.
These results are not final. The results will be canvassed on Friday, March 15.
